Guest Speaker: Dr Martyn Pickersgill
As ship’s counselor on the USS Enterprise, Lt. Commander Deanna Troi seems to represent many contemporary hopes of a ‘mentally healthy’ workplace in the future. Dr Martyn Pickersgill will use this screening as a springboard for a talk about some of the historical aspects of mental health services, and how this might shape future developments. Following the film, there will be an opportunity for deliberation between the audience about what they want the future of mental health to look like, and Martyn will be on hand to try and answer any questions. Martyn is a sociologist, with interests in the social aspects of health and illness, and is Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh.
