We will be joined by Dr. David Carmel, lecturer in psychology at the University of Edinburgh, whose talk is titled 'Are we living in The Matrix?' Follow the white rabbit and join us!
"What shapes our consciousness of the world around us? We don't experience the world directly - rather, our brain is constantly interpreting the information that is passed on from our senses, and constructing a reasonable interpretation. That interpretation is what we are aware of. In this short talk, I will describe a few ways in which this process happens, and demonstrate a couple of ways in which it can go wrong. This will lead to the question of whether we can trust our experiences - and from there, it's a short route to imagining we may all be living in a computer simulation."
